Benign nodular hyperplasia - Case 58. |
|
Clinical presentation: a 45-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of a mass in the left lobe which was discovered by the patient herself.
Palpation: a nodule in the left thyroid.
Functional state: euthyroidism (TSH 1.55 mIU/L).
Ultrasonography. The thyroid was echonormal and contained several small cystic lesions. There was a relatively large nodule in the lower-dorsal part of the right lobe while multiple nodules with different echogenicity in the left lobe. The location of the right nodule raised the possibility of parathyroid origin.
Cytological diagnosis: benign lesion.
Wash-out thyroglobulin was 201 pg/mL while that of parathormone was 3.1 pg/mL. Serum-thyroglobulin was 72 pg/mL, serum parathormone level was 45.8 pg/mL.
