Clinical presentation: a 68-year-old woman was referred for aspiration cytology. A multinodular goiter was detected on carotid Doppler examination.
Palpation: a nodule in the left lobe.
Functional state: euthyroidism (TSH 2.96 mIU/L).
Ultrasonography: the thyroids were echonormal and contained multiple hypoechogenic nodules. The largest of the nodules was located in the left lobe and contained coarse calcification and displayed a type 3 vascular pattern.
Cytological diagnosis: benign, colloid goiter.
