Benign nodular hyperplasia - Case 42. |
|
Clinical presentation: A 48-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of neck complaints and a nodular goiter.
Palpation: Both lobes were enlarged, the left one to a greater extent.
Functional state: euthyroidism with subnormal TSH-level 0.17 mIU/L, FT4 16.2 pM/L.
Ultrasonography showed a multinodular goiter. It is worth mentioning a hypoechogenic nodule with hyperechogenic granules in the right lobe and the substernal spread of the left lobe.
Cytology was performed from the hypoechogenic nodule in the right lobe and resulted in a benign, colloid goiter.
Histopathology disclosed benign, hyperplastic nodules.
