The type 3 vascular pattern can be found significantly higher number of cases of papillary carcinoma than in benign nodules. Nevertheless, the practical relevance is limited because of the relatively weak sensitivity and the speicificity of this sign. More important is the so-called chaotic intranodular blood flow demonstrated in the left lower case. This pattern has relatively greater practical significance.
